During the past decades a need to depart from the Western legal tradition has risen in diverse constitutional narratives. Abya Yala, Latin America in its ancestral name, has been at the forefront of this change with the development of the Andean constitutionalism, which integrates elements that respond to indigenous consmovisions, such as interculturality and plurinationality, to constitutional frameworks. LOLA recognizes the potential of exploring pluralist legal cultures in order to bring about a change in the way that normative legal systems are legitimized in diverse societies, such as those in Abya Yala. Through an interdisciplinary approach the project aims to bring about a more comprenhensive understanding of pluralist legal cultures that honour the rights of Nature and Indigenous peoples.
